Update (May 2024): Conditions at Samui Monkey Centre remain almost unimaginably grim. No improvements have been made at the zoo since PETA’s investigation several years ago. Keenly intelligent and social primates are kept on short chains and denied everything that’s natural and important to them, including opportunities to move about freely, enjoy the companionship of others of their own species, and make independent decisions. Birds are kept in cramped, filthy cages, and their fundamental need to fly is thwarted. Worse, recent footage provided to PETA suggests that zoo staff may be abusing the animals.
Authorities have done nothing to end the animals’ misery.
Samui Monkey Centre in Thailand is a real-life house of horrors. Monkeys are chained or confined to cramped, unkempt cages. Likewise, bears and other animals languish in barren, decrepit cages. The facility also imprisons animals illegally.
This zoo has a long history of shoddy animal-care standards. No animal deserves to endure a life sentence for human entertainment, and the ones here are exploited, abused, chained, caged, neglected, and put on display for tourists.
Take Action Now!
To help these tormented animals, please urge Thailand’s Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to shut this cruel facility down and transfer the animals to reputable sanctuaries immediately. Remember never to buy a ticket to any zoo, marine park, or other facility where animals suffer.
