Pata Zoo—located at the top of the Pata Department Store in Bangkok, Thailand—is one of the saddest places in the world. PETA's investigation shows that the animals imprisoned there are locked inside dark, barren cages. They are offered little to no enrichment and are clearly miserable. These animals—such as Kat, an orangutan with little opportunity for mental stimulation or physical exercise, and Bua Noi, a female gorilla who's been alone and behind bars since 1983—have been relegated to a concrete enclosure.
Recently, PETA activists held a colorful protest outside the department store, resulting in a meeting with zoo's owner to discuss the conditions at the zoo and the possibility of retiring the animals to a sanctuary. PETA has offered to transfer all the animals to a sanctuary, where they would have trees to climb, grass to roll in, and many other animals to play with. Although the owner assured open communication to discuss this matter further, we have not received a response since.
We Need Your Help
Please ask Pata Zoo's manager to accept PETA's offer to retire these animals to a sanctuary.
