Urge BGC to Put a Stop to Horse-Drawn Carriages!

Bonifacio Global City (BGC), located in Metro Manila, recently offered kalesa rides, otherwise known as horse-drawn carriage rides as a holiday “attraction”.

Despite hearing from PETA and hundreds of concerned people about the cruelty involved in forcing horses to cart people around, BGC refused to address the issue in any meaningful way and continued with their barbaric business. We need your help to ensure BGC does not host this “attraction” again.

Forcing horses to pull oversize loads isn't romantic—it's cruel. Horses are forced to toil in the searing heat, dodge traffic, and pound the pavement all day long. Metro Manila is one of the most densely populated areas on the planet, with horrendous traffic problems. Yet amid the plethora of vehicles, horses are forced to pull heavy carriages merely to fulfill tourists' fantasies of a historic cultural experience. These gentle animals suffer from respiratory ailments because they breathe in exhaust fumes, and they develop debilitating leg problems from walking on hard surfaces. Some horses have even dropped dead from heatstroke.

You Can Help

Please use the form below to contact BGC officials and urge them to show their commitment to animal welfare by banning all horse-drawn carriages. Boycott all of BGC's establishments until they confirm they will never host kalesa rides again.
