Help Working Horses Suffering on Volcano

On Taal Volcano, located on the island of Luzon in the Philippines, horses who never receive even the most basic veterinary care are worked to death. Tourists flock to the island to climb the volcano on the backs of these malnourished horses who trudge up and down the steep slopes in the blazing sun—thin, thirsty, and exhausted.

The horses, some of them lame, stumble on rocks as they climb the steep mountainside without being given a moment's rest. When they reach the top, there are no food or water troughs—instead, they're forced to start the dangerous trek back down the slippery trail under the threat of a whip.

In partnership with International Veterinary Outreach (IVO), PETA is working to improve these horses' plight, but we need your help. Our visiting clinics have already provided hundreds of horses working in the worst conditions with care by "floating" their teeth (filing down the sharp edges so that they can digest food), tending to their hooves, vaccinating them, and administering parasite prevention. PETA and IVO have also conducted seminars on the island to give information to horse owners and persuade them to improve their animals' welfare.

Please, help abate the suffering of these horses by donating today toward our lifesaving care.
