Animals are not ours to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment, or abuse in any other way.

This Company Is Severing Animals’ Heads and Limbs—Take Action Now!

Hong Kong Technology Venture Company Limited (HKTV)—the parent company of HKTVmall, one of Hong Kong’s most popular online shopping platforms—has admitted to conducting dozens of horrific experiments in which animals’ heads or limbs were severed.

According to HKTV’s 2025 Annual Results, since late 2022, the company has carried out 38 experiments as part of a so‑called “Life Science Project,” aiming to develop technology to keep detached animal organs “viable.” The company reported that severed animal limbs remained viable for up to 46 hours, while detached heads survived for around seven hours—claims its laboratory team described as a “world’s first.”

HKTV has suggested that these experiments could purportedly one day be applied to organ transplantation or even extending human lifespan. Yet the company’s own board admits that the research is purely exploratory, highly speculative, and offers no assurance of future benefits—despite plans to continue investing tens of millions of Hong Kong dollars every year into the project.

“However, at present, we are unable to accurately predict the project’s success rate or financial returns, nor can we reliably forecast its long-term development.” - HKTV

Pigs and Sheep Chopped Up—Public Outrage Grows
HKTV confirmed to the press that pigs and sheep were used in these experiments, calling them “species that are commonly used” in transplantation tests. While the company claims anesthetics were used and that procedures complied with ethics regulations, the Hong Kong SAR Department of Health has confirmed that these experiments were not conducted within Hong Kong, raising serious questions about transparency, ethics and oversight.

The revelations have triggered widespread public outrage, particularly among animal guardians and HKTVmall customers. Calls to boycott HKTV have surged online, with many people uninstalling the HKTVmall app. At least one companion animal health product supplier has already cut ties with HKTVmall and removed its products in response.

HKTV Is Out of Touch
There has been a recent shift away from animal testing internationally. For example, several U.S. agencies—including the Food and Drug Administration, National Institutes of Health, Environmental Protection Agency, Centers for Disease Control, U.S. Navy, and others—have recently announced historic plans to phase out animal testing.

Why Your Voice Matters
PETA Asia has sent a formal letter urging HKTV to immediately cease and permanently prohibit these experiments and any others like them. Now we need your voice. Public pressure works. Companies listen when customers, partners, and the wider community demand change. By taking action today you can help stop these cruel experiments and push HKTV to adopt compassionate, ethical practices.

Animals deserve respect, not dismemberment. Please act now.
